Within weeks of having my son in 2010 I had decided that if I ever had another child its birth had to be different to my son’s. My son was born in China and I had planned for a natural, drug free delivery, however my son was born via “emergency” caesarean, which was a traumatic experience for both of us. … When I discovered I was pregnant I knew the odds were stacked against me. I firmly wanted a VBAC and failing that I had strong wishes that I knew were going to be difficult to have fulfilled in a Thai hospital. I attended a Birthing in Bangkok meet Michele and we clicked. I felt that after describing my son’s birth to Michele she instinctively knew what I was hoping to achieve with this second birth.

As my due date grew closer Michele and I kept in close contact. She acknowledged my strengths and existing knowledge about birth and didn’t waste time going over things I already knew. Instead we focused on hypnobirth training and supporting my husband who wasn’t as confident as I was. Michele also offered great insight into the hospital system I was dealing with (I had chosen to deliver at Samitivej) and also my obstetrician. Armed with these insights I was able to make confident and informed decisions. As my due date arrived and passed Michele and I waited. My 4.88 kilogram daughter was eventually born at 43 weeks. Michele was due to fly overseas on the evening my daughter was born. She could easily have said she was unable to support me on that day and sent in the backup doula, but instead she was there with my husband and me until my daughter was safely earthside enjoying her first breastfeed.

In the last weeks of my pregnancy Michele was my source of information, strength and reassurance. As I laboured Michele offered the right kind of support and ensured that my husband felt empowered. My daughter was ultimately born by emergency c-section after going into distress but her birth was healing and empowering for both myself and my husband. I didn’t achieve a VBAC but I gained so much from her birth. With Michele’s support I had all of my birth wishes granted by my OB, something which I never imagined possible and which I attribute primarily to the support and guidance I received from her. Michele will always hold a special place in my heart, no words can express how truly grateful I am for all she did for me.

Michele supported my husband and me through the birth of our daughter, a remarkable and wonderful experience. From the start, I knew that I wanted to have a natural birth, if possible, and sought out providers that would support one. As I had just moved to Bangkok when I discovered I was pregnant, I had many questions ... I decided that a doula's support would help me address these concerns and give us the best chance to have the birth we hoped for. As I'd used hypnobirthing techniques during my first birth, I was looking for a doula with hypnotherapy experience. Michele came highly recommended, and I felt from the moment we met that she would be an enormous help before and during the labor process. Prior to the birth, my husband and I had two preparatory meetings with Michele to review hypnosis techniques we'd used and liked for the birth of our first child, and to learn new ones. ... During the weeks leading up to my due date, Michele was in close touch and was readily available for any questions and concerns. When it became clear I was in early labor, she came to our home and helped set the stage for the day by guiding me through some hypnosis exercises and my favorite hypnobirthing script. She helped me come up with a plan for when I would head to the hospital, giving me the freedom to labor comfortably at home with my family for the next several hours. When we did choose to go to the hospital, Michele was there waiting for us and helped get me settled in to the birthing room as quickly as possible. During active labor, Michele was a calming and steady presence. She helped me with (successful!) repositioning techniques when we discovered the baby was OP, deflected distractions, and gave my husband gentle suggestions for ways to support me while allowing him to act as my primary birth partner; this last was a particular help once I got in the birthing pool, as we hadn't specifically planned on (or prepared for) a water birth. Michele is kind, knowledgeable, and reassuring. I highly recommend her as a doula, especially for anyone interested in using self-hypnosis techniques during labor.

Michele helped me to give birth to my second daughter here in Bangkok and I sincerely thank her for her huge help. I really could not have coped without her guidance on pain-management techniques and her calming nature. Michele really made it very special for myself and my husband Markus. Thank you for helping me bring Laura into this world so beautifully. I highly recommend her to everyone!
